Swedish Street Sculpture

Although I slept in and lounged around, I have gotten out a little bit to explore Malmö. Lots of funky sculptures. I've captured a few for you.

Though far from home, I've been keeping tabs on the family. My dad is doing okay, not great, but being quite courageous. He went for a bread run yesterday. Speaking with him on the phone (via Skype--I love it!) he said how it was hard to make the trip without Mom joining him. He then invited me to go with him and his brother Frankie on a road trip to Texas. Now that can be an adventure!

I am working this week with a queer theater troupe, helping them develop new work. Based on their own histories of loss, coming out, joys, and conflicts we are creating human sculptures that then help us to explore and improvise.

What I find amazing is that we all share so many of the same stories. Sure the details are different, but those archetypical human experiences happen to all of us--conservatives, liberals, queers, straights, men, women. And it is in sharing our stories, honestly and with vulnerability, that we begin to hear each other, really hear each other and not just the stuff that comes out of our mouths.

Yes, Willie, you must come to malmö. Loads of fun. I go to Lund today, a university city nearby. Very bohemian I hear. We would look so normal there. :-)
